People are beginning to wonder where their products come from, especially food. After all, consumers deserve to know what they’re consuming, which is why we’ve seen a large push for organic products in recent years. Why choose organic? Let’s take a look at the benefits!
More and more studies are finding that how our food is grown can have an impact on our physical and mental health. Organic foods, such as vegetables, fruits, and other produce, contain less harmful pesticides that are used in industrial agriculture. These chemicals can remain on the food we end up eating. And, because organic produce is less likely to have these chemicals and preservatives, the food is generally fresher.
Choosing organic also helps the planet. In fact, 29,500 tonnes of pesticides are used every year in Australia alone, which can end up as agricultural runoff in our drinking water and oceans. When it comes to meat, 40% of Australian cattle are given some form of growth hormone, by opting for organic meat, we can reduce the use of these drugs fed to our livestock.
By consistently choosing organic products, we can set a standard for natural and locally produced goods. The consumer has a right to know what they are putting in their body or using in their home. With the internet as our resource, consumers have the power now more than ever before to educate themselves on their next purchase.
Are there any products that you’ve switched to organic? Which ones? We’d love to hear from you!
